ACe paragraph
In the poem "Disillusionment of Ten O'Clock", Wallace Stevens uses juxtaposition, imagery, and symbolism to portray the role of creativity in dreams and reality. The idea of a haunted house and "an old sailor, drunk and asleep in his boots" are juxtaposed in efforts to demonstrate how the sailors dreams compare to others. In this poem, it is made evident that the drunken sailor has rather wild and creative dreams due to his carelessness and drunkenness. On the other hand, "the houses are haunted by white night gowns," paints an image of the lack of creativity in other peoples dreams. Stevens gives the audience imagery of various bright-colored night-gowns, however all that are in the haunted house are white night-gowns. This imagery in lack of color symbolizes the lack of creativity. Comparing the "white night-gowns" to the "dream of baboons and periwinkles" there is a clear message of how individuality and creativity play a role in the elaborateness of dreams.
